Originally built as a classic seaside resort in 1928, The Atlantic Inn was the first inn to be built on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the property hosted outdoor enthusiasts focused on fishing and duck hunting, as well as guests looking for a peaceful retreat “just a bit off the beaten path.” It was rebuilt to more modern standards after suffering some damage from Hurricane Isabel, and then closed down again for renovation again after the current owners took over in 2020 and then re-opened in 2021.
Just a couple of blocks from the beach on the Atlantic Ocean, the property was carefully and lovingly reconstructed to showcase the original character of the historic seaside inn. Each of the suites and rooms have their own unique character and individual style, but all are also focused on the requirements of modern travelers. As one would expect in being faithful to the original design intent, the guest room layouts vary, but every rental unit a fully updated ensuite bath, and all are equipped with wall mounted flat-screen TVs, Wifi, Keurig coffee makers, and mini-fridges.
The owners’ quarters currently consists of 2 bedroom, 1 bath space, with 3 entrances, including one to a semi-private deck. There is also access to a fully finished 3rd floor attic area currently being used as storage. It could easily partitioned off and used for even more guest space, or an expansion of the owners’ quarters, if desired.
