The 1868 inn was built as a residence and retains many unique features that create a warm 19th century atmosphere. A large guest living room, the dining room, the kitchen, laundry center, and owners’ office/living room are on the first floor. Rich woodwork, 11-foot tall ceilings, fireplaces and unique decorative elements in the common areas reflect local history. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped, with ample storage, commercial appliances and custom oak cabinetry. The owners’ office/living room is spacious and has views of the harbor. The 7 guest rooms vary in size, providing a versatile range of room choices. Most rooms have water views. All have private bathrooms, individually controlled heating and cooling, and cable TV. The 50-foot long porch provides guests with unobstructed views of ships and boats, and overlooks a brick patio and perennial garden. Off street parking accommodates guest cars and boat trailers – a public boat ramp is nearby. There is also a small income-producing retail cottage on the .25-acre property. Deeded water access is included – great for new owners with a boat!

Inn at the Canal stands on a gentle hillside. The lower, walkout level was converted to living quarters for the owners in 2009 and includes a master bedroom and bathroom, walk-in closets, a private, ground-level entrance and a patio. Interior stairs connect the owners’ quarters with the office/living room.

Inn at the Canal achieves above-average occupancy rates with minimal advertising. Chesapeake City is promoted as an Eastern Shore destination by the state of Maryland and Cecil County and is featured in travel guides including fodors.com and tripadvisor.com.
